Hi friends, I’m Maya! I’m a 9-year-old Golden Great Pyrenees with a big bark (just to get your attention!) and an even bigger heart. All I really want are belly rubs, time outdoors, and cuddles with my family. When my family brought me home in 2016, they were going through a tough time after a divorce. I knew my job was to bring joy, love, and healing… I’ve been doing that ever since (and of course getting spoiled by my family). Since I was a puppy, I have had lots of favorite things to do, but here’s a few! I love being outdoors and digging holes to lie in (I’m just redecorating), playing with stuffies (except my favorite, Duck Duck, who I sleep with every night), and barking hello to anyone passing by, hoping for pets.
My Health Journey
When I was 6½, I was diagnosed with Addison’s disease, then a year later bilateral hip dysplasia. My mom has always done everything to keep me healthy, but Addison’s can cause sudden emergencies, and in August 2025, I had a serious Addisonian crisis and spent 5 days in the hospital. A week later, I struggled to walk and I needed rehab to stay strong (yes, I even braved the water treadmill). Shortly after, things got even harder, I tore my ACL and now I can’t walk. The doctor said that surgery is my best chance if I ever want to walk by myself again.
The Bills
Between my various medications for Addison’s disease, rehab, and hospital visits, Mom has already spent $10,000 since August. Now, my surgery and recovery will add another $12,000 or even more. Here’s the barkdown… I mean breakdown for the surgery: $500 for pre-surgery bloodwork, $7,700 for ACL surgery, $1,500 for my hospital stay after the surgery, $800 for follow-up vet visits, $1,700 for rehab, and $400 for medications.
Why We’re Asking
Some would give up and let “nature take its course.” But my family won’t. I’m not “just a dog,” I’m family. If you are able to donate, anything helps; $5, $10, or $20 here and there adds up! If you can’t donate, please share my story with other animal lovers or send encouragement (I love hearing my name and being told I’m a good dog).
Thank you for reading, sharing, and caring. With your help, I can get back to walks, time outdoors, digging holes for myself, and snuggling Duck Duck at night.
Love and tail wags,
Maya
