We found Maya limping alone on the streets of Quincy, Florida in November 2025. She was famished, covered in ticks, and barely holding on. We stopped to help her, not knowing that this single moment would turn into a fight for her life.

With shelters full, we became her shelter. The next morning, we rushed her to Banfield Pet Hospital and learned just how serious her condition was. Maya was suffering from heartworms, congestive heart failure, severe lung damage, and anemia, the clinic said she was not fit for treatment and that she could collapse any second. We took her to Cairo Animal Hospital hoping they had a different opinion, and they did. Though she was far too weak for treatment, the ver asked us to focus on stabilizing her to be fit for vaccines, spaying, and heartworm treatment once she got stronger.

Just as she began to improve, we discovered she was pregnant by the end of 2025. Her body was already exhausted, and when she went into labor, she couldn’t deliver on her own. Maya underwent an emergency cesarean surgery on January 2nd, 2026, and survived against the odds, giving birth to six puppies. We lost one shortly after, a heartbreak that still weighs on us.

Since then, Maya has faced multiple emergency hospital visits, oxygen therapy, IV medications, and setbacks that forced us to start over more than once. Still, she continues to fight with a quiet strength that amazes us every day.

Today, we are bottle-feeding her puppies so Maya can finally rest and focus on healing. Her medical bills have already surpassed $5,000, with critical treatments still ahead, including heartworm care, spay surgery, and vaccinations which are estimated to cost over $1,500 all together.

We are committed to Maya for as long as she needs us. That is why we are seeking your support, not because we want to give up, but because we want to keep showing up for her and make sure she gets to live the happy life she deserves.

We really appreciate any help provided from the deepest of our hearts.

Every penny collected will go towards paying her medical bills and medications. Any additional donations after covering her existing and upcoming medical and prescription bills will be put aside to pay for her life-long medications.

THANK YOU!
