Claudia Alvarez, who we all lovingly call Maya, is my oldest sister and the heart of our family. She is the oldest of seven siblings and a devoted mother to two children who love and need her every day. Our family is going through an incredibly hard time—a piece of us is missing, and her absence is felt deeply, especially by her kids. Claudia has been in the United States for over 20 years and has been married to a US citizen for seven years. She has always followed the rules, has a clean record, and has never been in any trouble. Unfortunately, her DACA status expired, and now she is facing an ICE deportation case that threatens to separate her from her family and loved ones.
We are raising funds to help Maya pay for a lawyer who can fight her case and give her the best chance to be released and reunited with her family. Legal fees are expensive, and without help, it will be difficult for us to afford the support she needs. Having a lawyer means hope for Maya’s future and the possibility of keeping our family together. Her children need their mother, and we all need Maya back home with us.
