Help Maya and the Muyshondt family

In March 2020, the lives of everyone on this planet turned upside down as we were all hit by a terrifying global pandemic. Anxiety, depression, and fear were at an all-time high as a brand-new illness established itself as a threat to our livelihoods.
My family wanted to help somehow, but we couldn’t figure out a safe and effective way to do so without compromising our health. After much thought, we decided that we would save someone, and that someone ended up being our rescue dog, Maya.
To know Maya is to love her. She is the light of our lives. After enduring so much in her early life, trapped in a house of hoarders with 27 other dogs, she still carries herself with grace and immense love for those she cares about most. We thought we were saving her, but we quickly realized that she saved all of us from one of the darkest points in our lives.
Recently, Maya has been experiencing corneal ulcers in her eye that simply won’t heal. Our goal is to take her to the vet, but the procedure that will help her is beyond our financial reach. This past year has been incredibly tough for my family. My father, mother, and I are unable to work due to our current visas. My mother has been diagnosed with cancer again in her neck and will undergo surgery this Fall to remove the tumor. Additionally, my sister and I are currently in college, which is extremely expensive.
While we will handle our own expenses when the time comes, our priority right now is Maya, as her situation requires immediate care to save her vision. Anything helps, and my family—Arturo Sr., Monica, Alexandra, and Maya—appreciate your support more than we can possibly express.
