Help My Grandmother, May Martinez, Travel to Tennessee for the Execution of the Woman Convicted of Murdering Her Daughter
My name is Morgan, and I am the granddaughter of May Martinez and the niece of Colleen Slemmer.
In 1995, my aunt, Colleen Slemmer, was only 19 years old when she was brutally murdered in Knoxville, Tennessee. The crime shocked the community and became one of Tennessee’s most widely known murder cases. The woman convicted of Colleen’s murder was sentenced to death.
For more than 30 years, my grandmother has lived with the unimaginable pain of losing her daughter. No parent should ever have to bury their child. She has endured decades of grief, court hearings, appeals, and waiting as the legal process continued.
Now, after all these years, the execution has been scheduled. My grandmother has waited more than 30 years for justice for her daughter, and my greatest wish is that she is able to be there to witness the conclusion of this long legal process. This is not about celebrating someone’s death or seeking revenge. It is about allowing a mother to see justice carried out for her daughter and, after carrying this heartbreaking loss for more than three decades, finally finding a measure of peace and closure.
Unfortunately, the cost of traveling to Tennessee is more than my grandmother can afford on her own. As her granddaughter and Colleen’s niece, I want to do everything I can to make sure financial hardship does not keep her from being there.
The funds raised will help cover:
* Round-trip airfare
* Hotel accommodations
* Meals during the trip
* Transportation to and from the airport, hotel, and correctional facility
* Any other necessary travel expenses
My grandmother has carried this pain every single day since Colleen was taken from our family. While nothing can ever bring my aunt back, I hope this journey will allow my grandmother to witness the justice she has waited more than 30 years for and help bring her a sense of peace.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your family and friends. Every donation, no matter the amount, and every share brings my grandmother one step closer to making this trip.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support. Our family will be forever grateful for helping May honor Colleen’s memory and be present for this important moment.
