Help May Access Life-Saving Asthma Medication

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Miyuki, and I’m coming on here today to raise money for my disabled older sister, May, who is blind and deaf in her left eye and ear and has chronic severe asthma and lung disease. She’s been dealing with this and many other health issues since childhood, with chronic severe asthma/lung disease being a big contributor to her multiple hospitalizations every single year. She’s a quiet but brilliant and bright young lady who is a natural poet and an amazing photographer (as seen in the photo of her above!).

In the last couple of years, she has been able to get on a new medication called Nucala. Though this does not make her asthma go away, it keeps her from getting severe asthma attacks, which have allowed her to live her life outside the hospital, where she would always end up multiple times every single year. This has helped tremendously and has been her best maintenance medication yet. But her insurance is now constantly denying her the medication as they say she needs to try a prior medication that she had an adverse reaction to, and she is not comfortable taking that as it will make her asthma worse and not help her complicated case of asthma and lung disease. Nucala costs around $44,000+ to cover medication costs for a year. It would be so helpful to give her relief in knowing that her health is being managed in the best way possible since, throughout the years, she never had a medication like this that kept her from being hospitalized all the time. This would be a big help for her to get her medication every month and to help maintain her disabling health conditions and the expensive costs to help her stay afloat during these frequent hard times.

UPDATE: Thank you so much for all the donations so far it is such a great contribution to make and May greatly appreciates every single one! So far insurance is still denying her medication but she is holding on and still fighting back. Her asthma has been getting worse due to withdrawal of the medication but hopefully we can raise more money for another dosage at least to keep her at bay. I thank everyone for anything even if it’s just sharing the link it’s extremely helpful!

Update: As we work on the appeal for her medication denial by her insurance May is doing her very best to keep up with her health conditions but the longer she is without this medication her chronic lung issues are getting worse. Luckily there hasn’t been a hospitalization as of yet but due to her not being on the medication for almost 2 months now her asthma is getting worse. If anybody would like to share this link to others who can donate that would be extremely helpful and appreciated by May and her Family. Thank you all for your ongoing support!
