Help Maxwell Walk Again - ACL Surgeries Needed
Donation protected
Hello Friends and Animal Lovers,
Our family dog Maxwell only just turned 5 years old in March, and is currently facing a major debilitating medical challenge. We come to you today with a heartfelt plea for help, as we are truly at a loss for where else to turn.
The Situation: Several weeks ago Maxwell began to struggle on our daily walks, and began to develop a significant limp. After many vet consultations, we determined that he had a torn ACL in one knee. We began treating this with pain medication, while we weighed our options, and before we could even get an appointment scheduled for a surgery consultation, he suffered another setback and managed to also tear the ACL in his other knee. He now struggles with the simplest of tasks, including standing up long enough to be able to urinate or eat. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see him struggle and in so much pain, while also being visibly depressed at his inability to just be a dog anymore. His favorite things to do are go on long walks to the park and chase squirrels, and without the use of his back legs he is reduced to watching out the window.
The Treatment: The only hope for Maxwell to walk again is to have surgery on both hind legs. After a surgery consultation and multiple second opinions, it was determined that Maxwell will need TPLO surgery in each knee. The itemized surgery estimate predicts a total of between $4504.68 - $5085.06. This cost is for just 1 knee, although I was told surgery number 2 may be slightly less. This cost also does not include aftercare or any follow up treatment. All told I am expecting both surgeries and recovery to cost well over $10,000. The plan is to operate on one knee first, then after 6-8 weeks of recovery time, do the second knee surgery.
Why We Need Your Help: We have explored every possible avenue available to us in an attempt to finance these expenses, but unfortunately we just cannot come up with an amount of money like this. Since the initial injuries, Maxwell’s medical bills have already mounted, from the nearly $400/month in pain medication, to the numerous vet visits and x-rays. All money raised will go directly towards paying for Maxwell’s surgeries.
Any contribution, no matter how small would be genuinely appreciated. Also, please feel free to share this if you are able. Unfortunately my social media presence is small, and therefore my own audience is limited. If you are unable to donate, we still appreciate all of the support and please help spread the word! I have seen how awesome this community can be, so I’m hoping some dog lovers out there can help us make a difference and give Maxwell his life back!
If you’ve read this far, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your time and generosity. Please consider donating to support Maxwell’s long journey back to being a regular dog again. You will not only be impacting his life, but your kindness will mean the world to our family and will never be forgotten.
With love and gratitude,
Travis & Maxwell
