Hi, I'm Maxine, a transgender cartoonist, artist, and writer.

Last July, I was laid off from my position at my previous company, and have been looking for work. So far, I have not had luck in finding a job, and by February I ran out of my unemployment money, and also lost my health insurance. I do not own a house, or a car, and am living with my parents in North Texas. My parents have been able to house me so far, and I am very fortunate for their kindness. However, my dad is disabled and unemployed due to colon cancer, and my mom's job barely pays for their mortgage and food. I have been trying to pick up freelance art work, and even have been trying to find work in the service industry, but have been unsuccessful so far.

This past week, I was admitted to the emergency room where I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and needed emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder (cholecystectomy). It hasn't been more than 48 hours since the surgery, but I am already receiving urgent bills, including one that I cannot currently afford, but will double due to a loss of the discounted rate if I cannot pay it promptly.

I'm asking for mutual aid to assist in allowing me to get back onto my feet. I still do not know the total cost of all the procedures, and I am also working to receive financial assistance from the hospital and other groups. I am grateful for any amount that is raised to help me to get through this rough time. Please know that I am grateful to you for thinking of me, even if you cannot afford to assist.
