Every day, my cats Maxi and Momo wake up in pain.

Maxi paws at his face constantly. Momo rubs her eyes against the wall just to find a moment of relief. They can't tell me where it hurts, they just look at me with complete trust.

That trust is breaking my heart.

How Maxi and Momo saved my life

IIn 2019, I lost my father suddenly. I was 25, grieving alone in Germany, flying back to an empty apartment because I had to return to work.

The silence was unbearable.

Maxi and Momo changed that. They didn't just fill the silence, they saved me. They gave me a reason to keep going when everything felt impossible.

They gave me a reason to live when I needed one most.

Now they need me, and I'm running out of options.

What they're going through every day

• Maxi has severe gum disease. Eating is painful. He touches his face constantly — like an untreated toothache with no relief and no way to explain it.

• Momo has an eye condition vets describe as permanent sand trapped under the eyelids. She can barely open her eyes. She also has developing gum disease: pain from two places at once.

Cats can't tell us when they're hurting. They simply trust us to fix it.

Where I am right now

I've already spent €2,900 of my own savings. I have the official estimates and the surgeries are planned.

I just can't get them into the operating room without help.

Why I'm asking for help

I'm low-income and in treatment for my mental health. Asking strangers for help is one of the hardest things I've done, but watching them suffer every day is harder.

This is not a last resort out of laziness. It is a last resort out of love.
