Hi my name is Ali, I’m Maxi’s mum.

Our beautiful one year old Maxi was unexpectedly rushed to the emergency room once touching down in Mexico for what was meant to be a family holiday.

Maxi was diagnosed with septic shock and doctors started working immediately to save his life. Blood tests were conducted and the results came back with Maxi having RSV, Influenza Type B bacteria and Pneumonia all at once. RSV is a respiratory virus which was making it hard for him to breathe and the Influenza bacteria was causing a high level of infection, which spread to the lungs causing Pneumonia. This combination was too much for his little body to cope with and his organs started shutting down, as his oxygen levels were dangerously low.

Luckily, we made it to the hospital in time and Maxi has improved significantly over the past week in hospital. Due to receiving urgent care overseas, the life-saving medical care and hospital stay resulted in costs of over $15,000AUD.

Unfortunately travel insurance is not covering any of these costs.

If anyone can help support Maxi and our family in our time of need it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount big or small will go a long way in helping cover medical costs for our beautiful baby boy.

UPDATE: Maxi is out of the hospital after a one week stay. Doctors said he can continue treatment at home and must stay isolated for 5 more days to avoid catching any other viruses while he is recovering. He is doing much better and we are so grateful for everyone’s support and generosity.

I have increased the goal as the hospital stay ended up being 18,000AUD, including follow up doctor appointments, medications and medical expenses are still ongoing, but this amount will cover the remainder of his treatment. Again, thank you so much to everyone for sharing and all your donations, we are so lucky to have an amazing community.

Hola, me llamo Ali y soy la mamá de Maxi.

Nuestro hermoso Maxi, de un año, fue llevado inesperadamente a urgencias al aterrizar en México para lo que se suponía serían unas vacaciones familiares.

A Maxi le diagnosticaron shock séptico y los médicos trabajaron de inmediato para salvarle la vida. Le realizaron análisis de sangre y los resultados indicaron que Maxi tenía VSR, influenza tipo B y neumonía a la vez. El VSR es un virus respiratorio que le dificultaba la respiración, y la influenza le causaba una infección muy grave que se propagaba a los pulmones y le causaba neumonía. Esta combinación fue demasiado para su pequeño cuerpo y sus órganos comenzaron a fallar, ya que sus niveles de oxígeno eran peligrosamente bajos.

Por suerte, llegamos al hospital a tiempo y Maxi ha mejorado significativamente durante la última semana. Debido a que recibió atención urgente en el extranjero, la atención médica y la hospitalización que le salvaron la vida resultaron en costos de más de $15,000 AUD.

Desafortunadamente, el seguro de viaje no cubre ninguno de estos costos.
