Max is 7 year old Pomeranian that I adopted from the Max fund shelter in 2016. Max was recently diagnosed with large cell lymphoma cancer and gastrointestinal intestinal disease with a prognosis of 4-6 months to live. Since then we have been fighting for him to have the best care possible so that he has a fighting chance and can be as comfortable as possible. He started an aggressive form of chemotherapy every week in what’s called the Chop program and was on several medications. He had 4 chemo treatments and on the 5th his blood cell count was dangerously low at 14% and had and emergency blood transfusion yesterday, October 19th. He is currently sitting at 29% and is happy to be home. We are done with chemotherapy for him. It has been a very difficult time to say the least.
He still wants to play and have laughs and has so much in him. I am not giving up without a fight for him. He deserves it.
He’s taking a more holistic approach alongside veterinary medicine. He still needs a lot of help to make sure he lives the rest of his days as comfortable and as loved as possible… I unfortunately cannot do it alone.
Max has been my entire world since day 1 never leaving my side.
I always knew I would name my dog Max and when I found the Max fund shelter it seemed to good to be true. He was the first and only dog that I needed to see. When they brought him out from the back room to see me for the first time he pushed his way out of the woman’s arms and ran straight towards me like he knew me and we’d been separated for a long time. I picked him up and he felt like home. So I adopted him right away. The first day I took him home was the best day of my life. I had a new best friend and he was so happy to be there with me. I spent every moment I had with him and every dollar I had making sure his life was as fun and comfortable as possible. We loved going to the mountains and camping, going to dog parks, taking walks, playing with toys and cuddling most of all. I had him in mind with everything that I did and rushed home every day after my human obligations to be with him again. Through the time that I have had Max I have been through my own hardship and he was always there to lick my tears and do something silly to put a smile back on my face, healing me with love. You could never be sad around him. He has made my life better than I could have possibly ever imagined. I will eternally be grateful to him for showing me what love is.
Max ripped up a t shirt a week or so before we found out about the cancer. Me and my partner Josh could not find the other piece, we thought he ingested it. He was throwing up and had a hard time going to the bathroom. So we took him to the vet. We were sure that Max ate part of a shirt and it never passed and this was causing him to vomit. We thought we would be in and out with a manageable vet bill.
The ultrasound would show something completely different. The ultrasound and testing is showing two big masses in Max’s abdomen and needed to start chemotherapy the next day after being hospitalized that night.
After everything Max has meant to me there was no question that I was going to do everything I could to make sure he had the best care and the best chance possible.
We maxed out 2 credit cards that night getting him through treatment. Since then we started a go fund me, talking to everyone I had ever met in my whole life sharing Max’s story and how much he means to us. We’ve printed flyers and shared with anyone interested in listening to the impact he’s made in the world. It has been extremely exhausting trying to find funds for him and taking care of him through this and it’s only the beginning. I work a full time job at a hotel, while Josh is in school studying to be a mental health therapist and working any hours he can to support us. We are giving this all we have and it doesn’t seem to be enough.
We need help. Max needs your help.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated to giving Max the best chance possible to live out his days with the best care and a loving community behind him showing what it means to care for each other in the times of need. He might have a chance to live a longer, healthier and happier life if we are able to get him the treatment and love and care that he deserves right now.
Any donation can make a big difference on the care and treatment that Max can get.
However you feel called to donate would mean everything to us. You can donate to our GoFundMe with the link provided, or even call the vet directly and put money on his books.
