My son Max will be 16 in just three weeks and is currently a sophomore at NESA Magnet School for Theater Arts. Watching him perform and work toward his dreams has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Recently, Max auditioned for the Nexus Musical Theatre Summer Intensive at Texas State University—and he was accepted! This incredible 11-day program is a dynamic and innovative experience that includes wellness workshops, performance classes, audition preparation, and hands-on training with the renowned Texas State Musical Theatre faculty. Opportunities like this help young performers build their skills, confidence, and connections for the future.

Max actually wanted to attend this program his freshman year, but as a single mom, the cost was something we couldn't afford. Earlier this month, Max was invited to audition for the JOCI Awards, an organization that offers life-changing scholarships, mentorship with industry professionals, and immersive theater experiences. We prayed that this would be his path, and he would receive that life-changing email. Unfortunately, today he received the news that he was not selected. Even though that scholarship didn’t work out, I don’t want Max to miss this incredible opportunity. The deposit for the program is due March 16, and the final payment is due April 16, so time is of the essence.

Max has worked so hard for this moment. His dedication, courage to audition, and love for theater inspire me every day. I truly believe this experience will help shape his future and allow him to continue pursuing the dream he has had since he was a little boy.
