This is Peter and Grace, old college friends of Max Sims, who is one of kindest people we know. He is a devoted husband to Chris and loving father of Annabeth and needs our help.
To grant Annabet’s 18th birthday wish, Max went skydiving with her in September and broke his leg upon landing. Emergency surgery was needed to place 9 pins into his tibia and he spent the next 4 days in the hospital. We thought it would be just a matter of healing afterwards, but Max slipped and fell while he was recovering and broke 3 ribs, which required another 3 day hospital stay at Stanford. Another result of this fall was Max’s healing was slowed by his diabetes. Under the ulcer was just dead skin and fat. A 3rd surgery to reconstruct his leg through plastic surgery was needed to correct this problem and required a total of 16 days in the hospital.
Max wasn’t healing as quickly as we had hoped and has been unable to work for the last 2 months. As an Adjunct Professor, he has no medical leave and the mounting hospital bills have taken a financial toll on Max and his family. Their share of the hospital bill is $9,000.00. In an effort to reduce the financial burden, they are looking for a roommate and selling their car. The rent alone for their modest, 2 BR apartment is over $2400.00 a month! This is a serious situation as they have gone through their savings already. They need our help until Max can get back on his feet again.
