At the end of 2023, our water meter was replaced, and with it came a shocking revelation: for over 10 quarters (2.5 years), our water usage had been severely underestimated due to a lack of proper readings. During this time, an undetected toilet leak significantly inflated our actual water consumption.

When the oversight was finally addressed, we were hit with a retroactive water bill of $11,000—all at once. To make matters worse, interest quickly accrued, raising the total to $14,000 before we could even respond.
