Help Max Recover from a Sudden, Serious Injury
Hello friends,
This morning, something happened that shook me to my core. Around 8am, I woke up like normal, everything seemed fine. Max, my sweet boy, even came to visit me in bed. I dozed off again for just a few minutes—and then I was jolted awake by screams and hissing. At first, I thought it was the usual scuffle between Max and Solomon. But this time, it was very different.
After reviewing all of my security footage, I realized the incident happened in a blind spot between my bedroom and living room—just a small 30-foot stretch. Somehow, in that short distance, Max suffered a freak accident. He fractured his hip and part of his leg. He’s in pain limping and will need surgery within the next few days. He is on a lot of pain meds at the moment and will need them until his urgent surgery.
I’ve done everything I can to be a responsible pet owner, including getting pet insurance. Thankfully, insurance will cover most of the surgery, but there’s still a significant cost on me. I’ll need to pay the $1,000 deductible, plus 20% of the remaining cost. The total procedure is estimated between $4,000–$5,000, which leaves me with about $2,000 out-of-pocket.
I wasn’t prepared for this—emotionally or financially. Since my beloved Samson passed away, I’ve been doing freelance work, and things have been tough. I’m also helping care for my elderly mother, who’s had two strokes, and my father, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It’s been overwhelming. But Max means the world to me, and I will do whatever I can to make sure he’s okay.
I’m asking for your help today. This community has been amazing in the past, and I’m so grateful for your support. No donation is too small—every bit truly adds up. I’ll be sharing updates, receipts, x-rays, and everything along the way. I’m also making sure we work with the right surgeon, so we avoid the heartbreak I went through with Samson.
They’ve told me Max may walk with a limp for the rest of his life. It breaks my heart. This happened in the blink of an eye, and I still can’t fully believe it. But I know he’s strong, and with your help, he’ll pull through.
Thank you so much for reading, for sharing, and for anything you can give.
With gratitude,
Jonathan
