Those who have known me for a bit, know that cats have a way of finding me (and me them) — and once they do, I can’t help but step in to make sure they’re safe, healthy, and cared for. Over the last few years, I’ve taken on several rescue and TNR (trap-neuter-return) projects, from barn cats I’ve taken the responsibility for, to local colonies that rely on me for ongoing support. It’s a labor of love, but it also comes with costs that add up quickly. I’m reaching out for a little help so I can continue giving these cats the care they need and deserve! Read below to learn about the kitties that I am currently fundraising for:

~Max and Mama~

Many of you know my barn cats, mom and son duo - Max and Mama, from our time at Honey Brook Stables. They first came into my life in fall of 2021 when a litter of kittens was discovered in the hay barn. By March of 2022 they were both trapped, fixed and vaccinated. Mama was completely feral and Max was just a feral-born kitten - flash forward and now I can’t walk a straight line without tripping over Max, and they both come to me when called and follow me everywhere. Ever since we left Honey Brook at the end of 2023, I have continued to go there multiple times a week to care for them. They mean so much to me, and I consider them my cats.

As some of you may remember from my earlier posts, I’ve been searching for a new forever barn home for them since circumstances changed at the Honey Brook property a few months ago. I’m so happy to share that I’ve now found them a wonderful place where they’ll be safe and very loved!

I need to move them by the end of this month, but on the way to their new home, I’d like to stop at the vet to get them updated on their vaccines. Currently I have an appointment set for them for September 18th. While Mama cat is very friendly with me, she really has never been handled, so sedation may be needed to make the appointment the least stressful for everyone. And of course that is another cost added to the vet bill.

I’m asking for a little support to help contribute to the vet appointment, so Max and Mama can start their next chapter healthy and happy. Any amount helps, and I’m so grateful for your kindness.

And then, of course, there are my ongoing TNR projects. While I’ve been able to get the majority of cats at the Main Street property spayed/neutered, there are still two boys left from my original list, as well as two new kitties (sex unknown) who have recently appeared at the colony.

With colonies like this, the expenses don’t stop at fixing and vaccinating. There’s also the ongoing responsibility of keeping a large group of cats healthy — dewormer, flea prevention, and the occasional vet visit when injuries or illnesses arise. One of the very first cats I TNR’d here, Joey, recently showed up with a wound on his leg. He is the sweetest love bug, and if it doesn’t heal soon, I’ll need to help his owner get him into the vet for care.

Additionally, a new cat has started hanging around Concordia Stables. We’re not sure if he wandered over from a nearby Amish farm or if he was dumped, but he’s also now on my list for TNR!
