HELP MAX, HELP LOIS

Donation protected
I have set this up on behalf of my Dad, Max Urquhart, who doesn't have Facebook, and has been too proud to ask for help.

In March 2018, my Mum Lois Urquhart, suffered a major stroke. Unfortunately she hasn't regained use of the left side of her body, as we had first hoped and this has greatly impacted on Mum and Dad's lives.
Initially she was moved around 5 different hospitals, each time being pushed out due to limited funding and capability. Dad managed to get her into a nursing home temporarily, while undergoing the necessary changes to their house, to be able to bring Mum home and give her the best care and attention he could. He still needs to support Mum by helping her with physiotherapy & rehab, and ongoing care day to day so he can get essential chores done. Dad still needs to buy more medical equipment to assist Mum with her daily life.

When this hits home with a loved family member, you find out how  lacking our health system is and how understaffed our hospitals are. Doing the basic, simple things in life; they are no longer basic & simple. This has been an exhausting year for Dad and a huge adjustment for the both of them.

If anyone feels they can assist and donate to Dad, I thank you.

Please share to other family and friends.

I've included Dad's story below.

Kind regards,
Michelle Gladdish

My wife Lois of 54 years had a stroke on 17 March 2018 and is now paralysed down her dominate left side and is wheel chair bound for the rest of her life.
She was admitted by ambulance to the Albury hospital, transferred to the Royal Melbourne hospital by plane, then transferred back to Albury, then to Wodonga Rehab, moved to Culcairn and Henty regional hospitals 140km from Albury. She has endured alot in a short timeframe.
Lois and I always wanted to bring her home, but our house of 40 years needed many modifications before we could achieve this. Lois has been assessed by Myagedcare for a home care package Level 4 with high care needs, however there isn't any assistance from the Government for 12 months or more.
I have spoken to the many Government Depts and 2 local politicians without success. It seems too hard to for the various Depts to allow me to care for Lois at home while I can, instead of having her stuck in a nursing home which doesn't allow her any quality of life.
Modifications required on our house are: Toilet, Bathroom, Laundry, new flooring for wheelchair, ramps to the front and back of house - estimated cost $50,000.
There are also other medical aids, upgraded wheelchair, new adjustable bed, etc required to assist me with Lois at home.
This is a difficult task to achieve on my own, but I am determined to make it happen for Lois.
Not having your loved one by your side is like having lost your wife.

I met and married Lois when I was playing for Collingwood 54 years ago - she still loves the Club and we hope one day we can get down again, to watch a game live.

If you can help support my cause, I thank you.

Best Regards,
Max
