Max and her sister Remi came into our lives eight years ago, after we rescued them as kittens from a dangerous situation in Roxbury. A group of kids had been targeting their mother, and we managed to save two out of six kittens. Both Max and Remi were terrified, injured, and covered in fleas, but we brought them home, cleaned them up, and promised them safety. Over the years, they’ve remained anxious but have become beloved members of our family, bringing us comfort and joy.

Recently, we noticed Max’s right rear leg was swollen, with a large wound, blood, and pus. We rushed her to a local vet, who ran bloodwork and prescribed antibiotics, pain medication, and something to help her relax. Despite our best efforts, Max’s condition hasn’t improved, and the vet now suspects cancer. They’ve recommended a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis, and surgery or even amputation may be needed to save her life. The cost of these procedures is far beyond what we can afford, especially as I’m struggling financially and my daughter is a full-time college student working part-time to make ends meet.

We’ve reached out to local organizations for help, but so far, we haven’t been able to secure the support Max needs. Every day that passes, we worry that her condition will get worse. We love Max dearly and want to give her the best chance at recovery, but we can’t do it alone. Any support, no matter the amount, would mean the world to us.
