❣️ Help Max Get His Urgent MRI❣️

Donation protected
Hi everyone, pls meet Max ♡
The sweetest husky boy we've ever met.  When we heard about his situation there was no way we couldn't get involved. Besides, our rescue takes on some of the most complicated abuse cases in the region.

Just by looking at his gentle face, you can see how he's the kind of dog that rallies people everywhere to step up & help him, to protect him, and to remind him there are good humans out there! But we can’t do this alone! We need to rally all animal lovers to get involved in Max’s story. Even a small donation goes a long way - we want to make sure Max lives a very veryyyy happy healthy life - he truly deserves it.

(Trigger Warning - Abuse)

THE BACKSTORY
Max is from a neighborhood in Playa del Carmen known for rampant animal abuse. He had an owner that would strangle him with a cord, then beat him on the head. He was left on the streets, never inside the home, very little food, never clean water. Yet he was always so lovely with the neighborhood kids even though he was suffering daily.  Thankfully a neighbor asked for help, we mobilized and got him out of that hellhole. He's only 2 years old.

Upon rescue, Max showed a unique condition called “redirected aggression” - but onto himself.  He is the 3rd case we have come across in our 5 years of rescue and it’s often because of severe trauma that the dog endured. It’s a very odd erratic behavior that’s very hard to watch, in Max‘s case he would attack his own feet / his back paws, as if they weren’t attached to him - to the point of bleeding.

He only had 2 episodes within the first week of being rescued, and never had the behavior again during his time in Mexico. Once arriving in Canada, he started to have them more frequently, then daily.  Maybe the stress of travel, maybe a coincidence, we don’t know. It makes sense that he would have neurological issues considering the extent of abuse he suffered.

We desperately wanted to get him on Pet insurance so that he could be covered in Canada. However, his episodes started to get more frequent and Sunday we had to rush him to the emergency vet. The x-rays did not show any issue to his skeletal structure, which is great news, but requires an MRI to further investigate.

The diagnosis at the emergency vet was cluster seizures, where he was seizing and unable to stop.  He’s now with his awesome foster mama Chantel, being cared for 24/7.  Since Sunday he's only had 1 episode  But he is also heavily medicated. We also have him in a muzzle to make sure he can't injure his paws anymore (they were getting badly chewed up).

His awesome foster dad is driving from 100 Mile House to Vancouver on Thursday, and on Friday morning he has his MRI at Boundary Bay. Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Boundary Bay requires a 75% down payment before he goes to his visit and the estimate is 6,000$CAD.

As you know in the rescue world, we are always without funds because rescuing dogs always cost wayyyy more money than our adoption fees ever cover.

As pet insurance isn’t an option, all the costs need to be paid in cash. Please help us save him! Max - truly the best dog ever!

Note: The fundraiser is in USD because I'm the co-founder and registered in the US with a US bank account. I can't default to CAD for that reason. We operate between Mexico and Canada, we are an official non-profit in Canada and work with a Canadian Charity if you prefer to donate with a tax exemption.
