Max needs your help to receive his life-saving medicine.
Max has come a long way since I adopted him 4 years ago at the age of 9. Here he is then, dirty and matted, dumped by his family into a scary foster home:
I wasn’t really looking for a pet. I had been adopted as a baby into a not-so-good situation, and always knew I’d adopt my own baby someday to make things right. When I saw Max’s photo online, I fell in love and then traveled to a dismal and sketchy city to pick him up. He was antic and not really pleasant, but I had made the mental commitment to love what you get.
After a rough start, Max became the sweetest love of my life. He quickly transitioned from Wild Thang to the most gentle, loving companion. Here he is cuddling a teddy bear that belonged to my son 42 years ago:
He has become lively, friendly, curious, and simply delightful:
Max quickly became known in the neighborhood as the calm, sweet and collegial pup who could attract even the most shy canines and children. He is stoic and will steadfastly abide children’s rough play. He is every dog’s best friend.
Max has comforted me through continual illness, family heartbreak, and financial struggle.
Today, at 13 years young, Max needs our help. Added to his significant heart disease and painful arthritis is newly diagnosed autoimmune active chronic hepatitis. This liver disease can easily progress to cirrhosis, and if it does, it is fatal. Keeping his hepatitis in check involves costly prescription food and very expensive immunosuppressant drugs. The drugs cost about $20 each day, and this is far beyond what I can afford on my teacher’s tiny partial pension. Fortunately, insurance should cover much of his $10k+ recent liver surgery, but it does not cover medications.
Please help my Maxelah continue to live a happy, safe, fulfilling life by contributing even the smallest amount - if you can. Every $10 donation helps and will fund his medication for a half-day. I hope that we will be able to lessen his meds in time, but this is the current reality. (The fundraising goal of $1,800 will pay for 90 days of Max’ treatment.)
In addition to prolonging my sweetest pup’s life, your donation ensures me more time with my best friend, and this gift is priceless.
If you can’t donate, I totally understand!!! Perhaps you would forward this GoFundMe to a friend or post it on FB, Insta or elsewhere. Max and I would appreciate this gesture immensely. https://gofund.me/0c14fad09
Thank you so much for reading this and for holding Max in your heart!
