Help Eric Fight Kidney Failure
Donation protected
It was over a year ago that Eric was in his junior year of high school attending a sports physical to play soccer when a set of events unfolded that would change the rest of his life. The doctor found Eric's blood pressure alarming to the point where he was rushed to the emergency room. Once at the emergency room, they discovered his kidneys were operating at about 5-10 percent capacity, putting him in stage 5 kidney failure.
From the ER, Eric was sent to UCSF Benioff Children's hospital where he spent several weeks while doctors stabilized his condition enough to begin the process of peritoneal dialysis.
Anyone familiar with peritoneal dialysis knows how overwhelming it can be to hook up to a machine and have fluids circulated through your body for 8-10 hours every night. During this process there were several complications requiring emergency surgery and many on going check ups.
We hoped to move from dialysis to a kidney transplant quickly. Unfortunately, we've recently had an additional diagnosis that adds more necessary steps to the process. The doctors found complications relating to a possible genetic mutation that makes a new kidney far more likely to be rejected. The circumstances have created a far more lengthy and difficult process that includes but is not limited to chemotherapy, stem-cell therapy, and bone marrow transplant before being able to start the process of a kidney transplant.
At this point it is estimated for just the prerequisite operations to take over a year. This means the road to fighting for a new kidney has become far more lengthy and costly.
Donate today and help Eric fight this battle for health. Any donations will be greatly appreciated!
