Hiya folks,
Max here… and I’ve recently been diagnosed with two rare peripheral nerve sheath tumors in my arm.
For over a year, I’ve been living with pain, tingling, and loss of dexterity… symptoms that I tried to manage, assuming they were temporary or the result of overuse. Last year, I had to leave a job after being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hand, something I thought would be the biggest hurdle to overcome. I adapted as best I could, determined to stay active and rebuild. But when I began to feel new pain and numbness spreading through my arm, I finally went to urgent care. After an ultrasound and MRIs, I learned about the tumors.
Now, I’m in the process of navigating next steps with multiple appointments this week to clarify my treatment plan. Also starting physical therapy to maintain as much strength and mobility as possible while I prepare for whatever comes next.
Some of you may remember that I previously created a GoFundMe seeking help for gender-affirming care. That experience changed my life and helped me align my outer world with who I truly am. Asking for help again is difficult as vulnerability always is, but I’ve learned that sometimes the only way forward is through connection and trust.
This time, the need is about physical health and stability while I navigate treatment, recovery, and the limitations that come with it, and continue moving forward. I’m seeking $3,000 to cover about six weeks of essential expenses: rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation for medical appointments while I focus on healing, regaining strength, and navigating work opportunities.
I know times are tough for everyone, and asking for help again is not something I do lightly. But I’ve come to see that asking for help isn’t weakness, it’s participation in our shared humanity. Every bit of support, whether financial, emotional, or through simply sharing this message, helps create a bridge between this difficult chapter and the next one.
This is temporary. I’m hopeful about the future and focused on recovery, rebuilding work that fits my abilities, and giving back to others in the same spirit that has been shown to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, for caring, and for being part of that bridge. The bridge between challenge and renewal.
With gratitude, awareness, and presence,
Max
