UPDATE 10/7/2026

The situation we moved into with my husband's mother was nothing but an expertly crafted lie by my manipulative mother-in-law. She lured us across the country with the promise of a stable home environment, only to rip the rug out from beneath our feet and leave us floundering. On September 30th, just 11 days after we had gotten settled (and one day since our things had arrived in WA), the assistant park manager showed up at our trailer door and told us that we had 24 hours to scrape together $5k or be kicked out by 4pm PST. We had never been notified of any outstanding rent on the property, in fact, we were told that we wouldn't have to worry about it.

The assistant manager was incredibly kind and let us stay an extra day, despite the outstanding balance and during that time, I was left trying to figure out what to do. Finally, we settled on simply renting a uhaul, re-packing all our things that had just arrived with our moving service into it, and driving across the country. The other option was being street homeless and unemployed in a state nearly 3,000 miles away from anyone that would even think of trying to help support us physically.

As of 10/7/2026, we just arrived back in New Jersey. We weren't even able to stay a full two weeks in the place promised to us. And my mother-in-law is currently ghosting my husband, meaning she is not willing to help with any of the costs. Between the initial move to Washington and our escape back to New Jersey, I had to put myself into massive debt to make sure that we were not going to be homeless.

We were lied to. I was betrayed and I am livid, tired and currently navigating the job market now that I am back home. Anything helps. I've included my current credit card standing as well, for proof. I am just so tired. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and support myself, my sister, my husband and our fur babies.

Old Posting/Description

My name is Max and I am a 26 year old trans person living in northern New Jersey with my husband, my sister and our two cats (both ESAs). We currently live with my mother, and that is incredibly unsustainable for us. I have been a victim of my mother's emotional abuse and neglect all my life, and recently it has escalated to financial abuse as well. I was thrust into the role of primary caretaker and provider for the home after my father left in 2023 and have not had a moment to save money up since then. I cover our groceries and whatever does not go towards that goes towards rent and transportation. It is a wonder if I have $20 in my account between paychecks.

Under my mother's sole care (she is the only one on the lease), we have nearly been evicted three separate times and as of June 2026, it seems our landlord is trying to move forward with the legal process on another eviction. Our gas was also shut off because she said she paid it and just... did not. Meaning we are living off of microwave and air fryer food until further notice.

We cannot keep living like this. It's tiring, we are all burnt out and despite my sister and I both working nearly full time hours, we can barely afford to keep living.

The 6k I am looking to raise will cover the rent for a uhaul, tow for my car, gas and motel costs for a cross country trip to Washington to live with my husband's family in a much more stable environment.
