Mavis is our beloved 8-year-old rescued Siberian Husky. She had a rough start in life, but has become a cherished member of our family, loved deeply by both her people and her doggie companion, Alfie. Yesterday, we noticed that Mavis was having trouble breathing, so we rushed her to Sage in Redwood City. After several tests, the veterinarians diagnosed her with pneumothorax—air trapped around her lungs—and found a shadow on her lungs that needs further investigation. They aspirated her lungs and are keeping her at least through today, possibly longer.
To find out what caused this, Mavis will need an ultrasound and possibly a CT scan. Possibilities include a foreign body or even cancer. The costs for her care are already very high and are expected to rise as she continues to need specialized treatment. As someone who is retired and on disability, these expenses are overwhelming, but we are determined to do everything we can to help Mavis recover and enjoy many more happy years with us.
Donations will go directly toward Mavis’s ongoing treatment and care. If you’re able, please consider sharing our story, sending good wishes, or making a contribution to help us through this difficult time. We will keep everyone updated on Mavis’s progress and are so grateful for any support you can offer.
