Help Mavi Get Urgent GI Surgery
UPDATE: Contiued management of auto-immune disease
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to ask for help for our dog, Mavi, who needs urgent gastrointestinal surgery after swallowing rocks. This procedure is necessary to prevent a dangerous obstruction and further complications, and the estimated cost is $3,000, which includes surgery, anesthesia, and post-operative care.
Who Mavi Is
Mavi came to us in April as a rescue after being surrendered by his previous family when they had a new baby. From the moment he arrived, he became part of our family in the deepest way. He is beautiful, playful, incredibly sweet, and deeply devoted to his people.
Most of all, Mavi is my kindergartener Brighton’s best friend. They are inseparable. Mavi follows him everywhere, watches over him, plays endlessly with him, and curls up right at his feet when it’s time to rest. Brighton is his person, and their bond is truly something special.
Mavi is also a wonderful guard dog—already warding off potential intruders—while still being the gentlest, most loving presence in our home.
What Happened
Mavi has been undergoing treatment for pemphigus, an autoimmune condition. As part of his treatment, he was prescribed steroids, which significantly increase appetite and can lead to compulsive eating behaviors in dogs.
We believe this sudden, intense hunger caused Mavi to swallow rocks—something he has never done before—putting him at serious risk for a gastrointestinal blockage.
After veterinary evaluation, surgery has been strongly recommended as the safest and most responsible next step. Waiting increases the risk of obstruction, perforation, infection, and more serious complications.
Why We Need Help
While we do have pet insurance through Pumpkin, which has helped significantly, Mavi’s ongoing treatment for pemphigus combined with this unexpected surgery is projected to exceed our annual coverage limit by approximately $3,000, which is the amount we are hoping to raise.
Funds raised will go directly toward:
Gastrointestinal surgery
Anesthesia and hospitalization
Post-operative care and recovery
How You Can Help
Any contribution—no matter the size—means more than we can say. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser also helps immensely.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mavi’s story and for helping give this incredible dog the chance to heal and continue being the joyful, protective, loving presence he is to Brighton and to our family.
With so much gratitude,
Jessica
