My name is Carole Ratcliff. I am working with my neighbor, Caile McDonald to help Maverick, a feral male stray cat with serious injuries.
Maverick is an orange feral male in zip code 19136 that has been cared for by Caile McDonald and me for about 5 years. He recently showed up with injuries to both of his left legs. The front leg had pus weeping from it. After several tries, we trapped him.
After we trapped him, we took him to ACCT Philly, where they examined him, neutered him, gave him a chip, vaccinated him and treated him for fleas. They told us that they were not able to help him medically, and that we had to take him to a veterinarian who was equipped to deal with his injuries. That is when we went to The Bridge Clinic, Bensalem.
He was seen at The Bridge Clinic in Bensalem on Thursday, August 7, 2025. His prognosis is pretty serious. He had scarred hamstring tendons in his left rear leg, infections in that leg, and arthritis in that knee all of which cannot be repaired. The doctor said the only option is to have his left rear leg amputated. This is going to be the first of two operations and it will cost over $1,000. We dropped him off for this surgery on Monday, August 11, 2025, and his amputation went smoothly. He is now resting quietly, and waiting for the next surgery to repair his front left leg, which should be done later this week. The second surgery is now scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
The second surgery is to repair the broken bone in his front left leg. The doctor said that the break originally had sharp edges but they have rounded out, and because of being rounded out they are not healing properly, and seem to be unable to heal without surgical intervention. He has an infection in the bone, which is weeping pus. The only thing that can be done for that is to have a plate attached to the bone to help the two portions try to heal. This is going to require eight weeks of medication given orally twice a day. The bone may or may not heal, but Caile and I agree that we need to take the chance to give him a life if he possibly can survive this terrible situation. Again, this surgery will be performed at The Bridge Clinic, Bensalem, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
The doctor said that the plate can only stay in his leg for eight weeks. After that it begins to accumulate bad stuff and needs to be removed, which will be a third surgery, and will be about $800.
The cost of all of this is going to be overwhelming. Photos of both estimates are included at the end of this posting. These are estimates only, and the total cost for all of his surgeries could amount to over $4,000. Every penny donated will be given to The Bridge Clinic, Bensalem, in Maverick's name, to pay towards his medical expenses.
The surgeries will be performed at The Bridge Clinic, Bensalem, PA. Their address is 1 Declaration Drive, Unit D, Bensalem, PA.
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give, even if it is only prayers for Maverick's recovery.
Enclosed are photos of the two invoices from The Bridge Clinic, Bensalem, and a couple of photos of Maverick.
