Hi everyone, my name is Nikki, and I’m fundraising for my beloved 3.5 year old cat, Maverick. He’s my very first cat adopted from San Diego Humane Society — my heart, my best friend, and the one who started my entire cat rescue journey.
Over the past few weeks, Maverick suddenly began losing weight rapidly. He became dehydrated, weak, and stopped eating. Saturday night on 10/4/2025, I rushed him to the ER after peeing bright red blood, his bloodwork showed severe inflammation (white blood cells at 29K), fever of 103.3F, dehydration, and abnormal kidney sizes — one enlarged encapsulated kidney, one small kidney.
The emergency vet and my primary vet both strongly suspect renal lymphoma. Maverick is currently on antibiotics, steroids, and fluids, and I’ve managed to get him eating again with careful hydration and supportive care. But he needs a full abdominal ultrasound, oncology consultation, and likely biopsy and advanced testing to confirm what’s happening — plus treatment (chemo and possibly radiation) to give him a fighting chance.
Despite everything, he’s still fighting — he’s now eating again, drinking, and following me around. He wants to live and I cannot imagine my life without him!
What These Funds Will Cover
Every dollar will go directly towards Maverick’s medical care to give him a real fighting chance:
- $255 Oncology consultation
- $390-$635 Abdominal ultrasound (with full report)
- $800-$1500 Diagnostic testing (biopsy, cultures, additional bloodwork)
- $1,000 Additional fluids, supportive care, recheck exam fees
- $1,000+ Medications and treatment (antibiotics, steroids, and to jump start his first round of cancer treatment)
A quick brief ultrasound was done today (10/7/2025) by our primary vet, but it only gave a small glimpse — he still needs a full abdominal ultrasound with fine needle aspiration to move forward with treatment.
Any amount helps — even $5 — and sharing our GoFundMe story means the world to us. Everything raised will go directly to Maverick’s medical care, and I’ll post updates every step of the way.
Maverick’s Story
Maverick came into my life after my beloved German shepherd, Max, crossed the rainbow bridge. I adopted Maverick when he was 8 weeks old from San Diego Humane Society in May of 2022, and he’s been my companion through everything since, even through a cross-country move and multiple in-state moves. He’s gentle, affectionate, and always greets me at the door. Seeing him fight so hard right now breaks my heart — but I know he still has so much life and love left to give. He's only 3.5 years old and when I adopted Maverick, I promised to give him a long 20+ years of commitment, through thick-and-thin, through it all, I promised to stand by his side.
If you can donate or share his story, it truly means the world to us. Every little bit helps give Maverick the chance he deserves to live a long and happy life.
From the bottom of our hearts — THANK YOU!!!
Maverick & Nikki ❤️
