A few weeks after his first birthday, Maverick was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma. We noticed a bump on his front leg in January of 2025 and a month later, Maverick's vet was able to diagnose and remove most of the tumor. The aggressive nature and position of the cancer led us to make the decision to amputate his leg.
Thanks to the love of so many people last year, we were given the gift of more time with our sweet boy. After he lost his leg, Maverick amazed us and adapted so quickly. He was running, digging, and playing again before we knew it. He is so joyful, resilient, and full of life, and he continues to show us every day how strong he is.
Unfortunately, in November of 2025, his cancer recurred at his amputation site right near his chest wall. We were able to get another surgery to remove his tumor on December 3rd, but then found out that the margins were too small so there is still cancer that is not able to be surgically removed. This means without treatment the tumor is very likely to keep coming back and spread to his lungs.
Your dontation would help us pay for the treatment that aims for a curative outcome which ultimately gives him a realistic chance at a full life. This treatment has a 85-90% success rate in similar cases. The oncologist gave us an estimate of $10,000-$12,000 for CT scans and SRT (Stereographic Radiation Therapy) and unfortunately pet insurance will not help with any pre-existing conditions. We will need to get this treatment by January of 2026.
Michael and I are so deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Maverick, and we completely understand that not everyone is able to give during this time. Any donation or sharing of his story would mean the world to us.
Maverick is our family. He is such a lovebug and we believe this could be the final big step toward a long, happy, cancer-free future for him. If you’d like get to know him better or follow his journey, you can find him on Instagram at @maverickofatx ❤️
