Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read over my current health situation. My name is Mauricio Mejia Mayo, I am 18 years old and I’ve been diagnosed with Colon Cancer phase 2. My family and I are currently in need of funds to help pay for the necessary medications I was prescribed to help with the Chemotherapy treatment I am on.
Without warning or any signs beforehand, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer only a couple of months ago. I would’ve never believed to have experienced this at such a young age. While at work I fell, which caused major back pain, which is why my parents took me to the hospital shortly after. Upon entering the hospital, I only expected to have X-rays and different scans done to show the damage of my injury. At the hospital, I went through an MRI scan, then the nurses ran a couple of blood tests to confirm my diagnosis. My family and I were waiting impatiently to find out anything the results had to say. I can’t put into words the anxiety I felt when the doctor finally came to share what they found. I was then given my diagnosis, followed by us bursting into tears. We couldn’t believe I had tested positive for Colon Cancer in phase 2. I felt devastated, and couldn’t process the news due to how unexpected it was, and I still ask the question, why me?
At the moment, my parents are trying to provide all the support I need and also working their hardest to keep up financially to cover the medications that help with my condition and the treatment. I unfortunately don’t have health insurance and the medical bills keep increasing, this means my parents alone have to pay the full cost of everything. On top of this, my parents have to make sure they cover our living expenses since we are a family of 6, as I’m the oldest of 4 children. The hours they work are even more limited because they take me to my doctors' appointments, and stay home on the days I’m unable to do anything because of the physical weakness caused by the Chemotherapy. The funds raised will be utilized to cover the cost of my medications and the medical bills we are incurring.
I very much appreciate the generosity of those who can help me during these hard moments. Please share my story with your friends and family! My family will be very grateful for any help we can receive & will be sure to remember your kindness. Thank you again for reading my story and supporting my cause, please keep me in your prayers
