Help Maureen Dance Again

You may know Maureen by one of her many duties on this earth: sister, friend, auntie, great-auntie, coworker, actress, disco queen. . . 

 

And you may know the story. . . Maureen was hit by a car on November 9, 2021 while walking in a crosswalk in her work's parking lot. I can't even imagine the terror. And she remembers everything.

 

She suffered a broken arm and both ankles/feet are broken and/or bones are shattered. She has gone through multiple surgeries.

 

As of now, she can have no weight bearing for 12 weeks. That means she cannot even attempt to walk until maybe February/March of 2022. After her long stay at Froedert Hospital she is hopefully moving to a rehab facility soon to help with the transition before she can return home. There is progress - baby steps of progress.

 

 

Thank the Lord she manages to use her one good hand so we continue to get Facebook posts and messages with that GREAT sense of humor of hers! She is truly grateful to be alive, and it could always have "been worse." But this is not to say it's not bad. Because it is pretty frickin' bad.

 

This fund is being started because her needs will be ongoing for a very long time. Not only are the medical bills already piling up - but there will be adjustments needed for her home such as railings and potentially ramps. She will need equipment such as the boots you see and a wheelchair. I suspect a walker may be in the future as well. There will be lots of gas tank fill ups to get her to appointments. Other needs may include a cleaning service for the house and meal gift cards. She will need new clothes - literally laughing that she now owns basketball break away pants. Who would have ever guessed that??

 

 

So many people have asked how to help. . .This is how you can help Maureen dance again. Consider spending $50 here instead of sending flowers. Maureen is a practical gal after all. . .

 

While writing this little story so many memories of concerts, shows, parades, parties, gatherings came flooding to mind - all with music to accompany. All with Maureen dancing a jig or groovin' to a beat. I have danced with her or watched her dance for 30 years. Any time. Any moment. Planned or unplanned. It just happens. Ever the disco queen.
