Help Maureen and Marty Rebuild After Tragedy

This past Tuesday, something truly heartbreaking happened to my Aunt Maureen and Uncle Marty—something we never imagined would unfold in such a devastating way.

Maureen and Marty have always poured their heart and soul into caring for the animals on their small farm, especially their beloved bison. They weren’t just livestock to them; they were her companions, their joy, and in many ways, part of their family.

That day, the bison accidentally got out of their enclosure and began to roam near the road outside their property. As Maureen rushed out with food, trying to gently guide them back home, the scene grew chaotic. Spectators gathered, taking photos, getting close, and unintentionally scaring the animals. Despite Maureen’s best efforts, the growing crowd caused the bison to become more agitated and frightened.

Twice, she came close to getting them back home. But each time, the commotion pushed them farther away.

Tragically, in the middle of this chaos, one of the frightened bison charged Maureen, severely goring her leg. Even while injured and in pain, her focus remained on the animals she loved. But once paramedics arrived, she had no choice but to leave for the hospital to begin treatment.

What followed was even more devastating.

Instead of allowing the situation to be resolved with care or calling for animal control or professional help, a sheriff made the decision to execute her animals on the spot.

These animals didn’t deserve this. They were scared and out of their element—not intentionally dangerous or malicious. Maureen and Marty didn’t just lose livestock that day—they lost dear companions and a part of their everyday life.

Maureen now faces a long road to physical recovery, including surgery on her leg and additional treatments for other injuries. On top of her physical pain, her and Marty grappling with the emotional trauma of losing the animals they cherished most.

We are raising funds to help Maureen and Marty with:

• Medical bills from emergency care and upcoming surgeries

• Recovery support while she heals

• Compensation for the loss of their animals, though no amount of money can truly replace them

• And eventually, the hope of rebuilding and healing from this unimaginable loss
