Hi friends and family,

Our beloved Maura is currently navigating the labyrinth of late-stage cancer. This has been an immense shock to our family, as I am sure it is to you in this moment. Maura is the last person we would ever expect this to happen to, but alas, life had other plans.

We deeply appreciate your condolences and concerns, yet it can be quite overwhelming in this delicate time.

So before we go any further, an important note: Please do not call, text, message or email Maura.

You are welcome to post your thoughts, prayers and wishes in the comments here on Gofundme.

The situation:

In spring of this year, Maura ended up in the emergency room for pain in her tailbone accompanied by increasing amounts of blood loss. After nearly a week in the hospital and a myriad of tests, she was diagnosed with stage 3b colon cancer.

As you can imagine, receiving this news sent us into a tailspin. After considering our options, we decided to commit to a holistic treatment plan.

While we've had many promising moments and have remained optimistic, her condition has grown more complex.

In mid-July, Maura was readmitted to the hospital for an emergency surgery. While the operation greatly improved her quality of life, the test results confirmed further metastasis to her liver, lungs and lymphs.

At this point we are mapping out our next steps to do what we can to facilitate a miraculous healing for Maura.

The doctor's conclusion is that the best they can offer her is palliative chemotherapy. This essentially means they have no expectation of a cure or recovery. This places us firmly between a rock and hard place.

Anyone that knows Maura knows that chemotherapy is the last thing she would consider subjecting herself to. As an incredibly sensitive person who gets migraines from a whiff of fragrance, we can't imagine the toll chemotherapy would take on her. While allopathic approaches such as chemo and further surgery are not out of the realm of possibility, we are faced with choosing an approach that is going to be the best for Maura's comfort and healing.

We need all the prayers and support we can get, as we navigate this dense and unforgiving forest.

Since this situation has unravelled, I have effectively become a full-time father, caring for our 22 month old son, a full-time caretaker, tending to Maura's healing needs, and continue as a full-time entrepreneur, providing for our family.

As you can imagine, this has brought an immense amount of mental, emotional, physical and financial pressure upon our family.

Thanks to some of our dear friends, we were encouraged to set up a fundraiser to pool our collective intentions and resources to support Maura's healing journey.

We need help.

It truly takes a village.

And we believe anything is possible when we come together.

How you can help:

First and foremost, we fully trust in the power of collective intention, so please hold us in your positive thoughts and prayers, and visualize Maura making a full recovery. We believe this is the most important thing we can all do. The mind is the most powerful healer of all.

If you have the means, financial support will make a significant impact on our wellbeing and my ability to stay fully focused on Maura's needs and healing process.

The additional expenses we've incurred and continue to pay are expected to surpass $50,000. This includes:

  • Medical + Hospital bills
  • Medical equipment & supplies
  • Holistic treatments
  • Prepared meals
  • Child care

We are endlessly grateful for any contribution you can offer. Everything helps!

Next steps:

At this point we are doing everything we can to keep Maura's spirits high and her body comfortable as we map out and navigate our next steps. We have been assembling our wellness team to provide Maura with the highest chances of a full recovery.

We will be providing periodic updates here to keep you all in the loop about her journey.

Everything is uncertain, and we have been brought into a state of total surrender.

We don't know what the future holds.

What we do know is that when we put our heads and hearts together, anything is possible.
