Help Mauka Recover: Support His Emergency Surgery and Care
Donation protected
Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers —
We’re reaching out for help after a sudden and scary medical emergency with our beloved dog, Mauka.
If you know Mauka, you know he’s a happy, goofy, social pup — always excited to greet everyone at the door and be part of the action. But this past weekend, things took a terrible turn.
On Friday night, Mauka got into some trouble when he was at a friend's house and ate a bunch of toys. By Saturday night, he was up all night vomiting, clearly in distress. On Sunday morning he didn’t even get up to greet guests arriving for the Passover Seder we were hosting. That’s when we knew something was really wrong.
As the evening went on, his condition kept getting worse. We left the Seder mid-meal to rush him to the emergency vet. They kept him overnight, but by the next morning, he had deteriorated significantly. He needed major surgery to save his life — they had to flip his twisted colon, tack both his colon and stomach to his ribs, and remove his spleen. He then spent two nights in the hospital recovering.
It’s been a heartbreaking few days, but Mauka is a total trooper. He’s still sad and sore, but he made it through and is finally home.
The total cost of his emergency care and hospital stay came to nearly $11,000. It was a huge, unexpected expense, and we’re doing everything we can to give him the best care possible. With Will in Counseling school and Sloan in her first year working as a Social Worker, this cost is nearly impossible for us to cover. Any support — whether through a donation or simply sharing this page — would mean the world to us.
This comes at a time where we were just beginning the process of training Mauka to be a therapy dog so he can help Sloan's students with disabilties and Will's future therapy clients heal too. Donating to our cause helps us get Mauka better so he can start to help others <3
Thank you so much for your love, generosity, and kindness. Mauka is part of our family, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helps him heal.
With love,
Will and Sloan
