Help Maui Get The Surgery She Needs

When leaving my apartment to do laundry one morning, I heard a cat crying out. I followed the meows and cries and found a sad black and white cat in a crate in the staircase with a cone around her head and a cast on her leg. Her crate had no water, no food, no litter, and a sign that said my neighbor had to put her in the staircase for a few days due to “problems.”

After knocking on their door and leaving notes, I soon discovered that the cat belonged to my neighbors friend who explained that she was staying with her in between leases but my neighbor insisted that the cat could no longer stay in the apartment. When I asked how she got hurt, she told me that she had fallen from our fifth floor fire escape. I immediately told her that I would take care of her for the next couple of weeks in between leases.

As many of you know, I have a cat named Moana. In the same spirit, I decided to call this cat Maui. Later that week, I helped her current owner schedule an appointment with Moana’s vet as I know she would be in good hands with them.  She was scheduled for surgery. When I asked how the surgery went, her owner told me upon further examination, the surgery would be $4,000. She was also informed that Maui’s leg would never heal naturally without it and she would constantly be in extreme pain. Maui’s current owner does not have the money for this as she is a student and told me she feels she has to surrender the cat because she can’t give her proper care. 

I have been caring for Maui for two weeks now and she is the absolute sweetest kitty cat. I have decided to adopt Maui, pay for her surgery, and give her the life she deserves without her experiencing constant pain. Some people may think I’m crazy for taking this cat in and spending all this money on her, but in my heart I know I have to do it.
