Help Mattie build a Teen Cafe!

 

Hello! My name is Mattie Strombach, and I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am 13 years old and currently attend Punahou Middle School. As you probably know, the pandemic has caused so much pain and loss for young people across our state, and honestly- the whole world. In addition to losing things like friends, school, & sports, I feel like the isolation and loneliness makes it extra hard for kids to cope with mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts. For me, it's definitely been tough at times. I know that other kids often struggle with their mental health too.

 

My dream was to become a doctor and help kids with their mental health. I told my mom (she's a therapist) that I wanted to open a teen cafe where kids could come and drink boba, hang out, and go to group therapy. This way, we could all learn to cope together. I even came up with the name myself, "Spill The Tea Cafe!" My mom said it was a cool idea, and that I didn't have to become a doctor to make this dream come true!
