My daughter Mattie is 10 years old and has Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a rare condition that has shaped so much of her life. This July, there’s a once-in-a-lifetime conference in Ohio that brings together families, adults, and doctors who truly understand what it’s like to live with this condition. Mattie has never met anyone else with her diagnosis, and neither have I. As she gets older, she’s starting to ask more questions and wants to feel like she belongs. This conference offers support groups for kids her age, adults who have lived with Arthrogryposis their whole lives, and doctors who have dedicated their careers to studying it. It’s a chance for us to find community, understanding, and resources we’ve never had before.

The costs for this trip—including travel, hotel for the week, food, conference tickets, and a few fun things for Mattie—add up quickly, especially with her upcoming spinal fusion surgery in March. We want to give Mattie the chance to connect with others, learn from experts, and feel less alone on her journey.
