My name is Matthew Thomas Wick. I’m a 46-year-old active-duty Air Force Registered Nurse with 15 years of service, originally from Chicago, IL. I’m a son, a brother, a husband, and the father of two special needs children.

One year ago, I found out that I have stage 4 colon cancer with metastasis to my liver. The initial prognosis was less than encouraging, but in the past year I have responded “incredibly well” to treatment and have made remarkable strides towards recovery. I’m currently on round 16 of chemotherapy and have continued to perform my duties through all of this; serving my country, taking care of patients, and providing for my family. I take great pride in that, but I know I won’t be able to do it forever. There’s just one thing pending that can help get me into remission and beat this: I need a liver transplant. I want to continue to serve, to care for, to support, to provide… to live. I am very close to finding a match for a living donor. Unfortunately, not all expenses for the donor are covered.

I’m creating this GoFundMe to cover travel expenses and potential loss of wages for the living donor of my liver transplant. If someone ends up donating a portion of their liver I want to ensure that they aren't sacrificing anything more than that already incredibly generous contribution, and that they have funds available to cover their expenses.
