My name is Matthew Walker, and I am 35 years old. On March 28th of last year, my life changed dramatically when I suffered an injury that left me unable to walk. Since then, I have undergone 10 back surgeries, and my recovery has been long and difficult. My fiancé is the only one able to work right now, and together we are raising our two children, ages 14 and 15. We also care for five animals and have opened our home to our elderly neighbor, who now lives with us and depends on our support.

I am currently fighting for social security disability, but as many know, that process can take a very long time. With only one income, it has become incredibly hard to keep up with mounting medical bills, rent, and the cost of food for our family. I recently had two spinal cord stimulators implanted in my back—one in October and another just two days ago. I am now facing a six to eight week recovery period, mostly confined to a recliner, and I still have a long road ahead to learn how to walk again through physical therapy.

The funds raised will go directly toward paying for my medical bills, ongoing and future treatments, physical therapy, and any additional surgeries that may be needed.
