Hi my name is Matthew Blisard, I’m a Charlotte native and moved back here in 2016 to be with my family. I bartend at a local favorite Irish bar, Tyber Creek. I love bartending and enjoy roaming my neighborhood south end on my days off. A few weeks ago unfortunately, I had a bad fall on one if those darn scooters they have around town and broke my elbow. The injury was serious enough that I needed surgery, and now I have two plates in my arm. I was shocked to find out that my insurance won’t cover the bill of over $70,000 for the procedure. On top of that, I work as a bartender, so being out of work for several weeks means I have no income coming in right now.

This situation has been overwhelming, both physically and financially. The medical bills are more than I could have ever imagined, and I’m worried about how I’ll afford basic things like groceries and food while I recover. I’m doing my best to stay positive, but the stress of not knowing how I’ll get through this is tough.
