My name is Matthew, and I am a nursing home resident. I don't know how many of you out there have ever lived in a nursing facility, but the conditions in them run a pretty wide gamut, from deplorable to amazing.
The one I'm in is middling in most respects (awesome nursing staff, very old facilities), barring one - the food. It isn't always horrible. Wednesdays and Fridays are usually pretty decent. The rest of the week though? Complete crapshoot. I've taken to stocking stuff like canned ravioli for emergency situations, which arise... a lot more often than you might think, when our kitchen decides to commit food crimes.
The problem here is threefold. One: I am diabetic, and canned foods aren't exactly the healthiest things in the world. Two: Food is expensive, fresh food even moreso, and not having anywhere to keep fresh food is a great big nail in the coffin of that idea. And three: I'm subsisting on $30 a month and the generosity of a very close friend (who is not allowed to donate to this, you know who you are).
Given those problems, you can probably figure out why I need a mini fridge, or at least a mini freezer - and why I cannot personally afford one. Thus, I turn now to the charity of strangers, in the hope that I might someday be able to fix myself a sandwich when the kitchen decides it wants to try and poison me again. ...Okay the poisoning bit is an exaggeration for this place. It did however happen at the last place I was in.
Any funds received will be put towards the purchase (and stocking, if I get more than the bare minimum needed) of a miniature refrigerator or freezer. I can provide images of some of the more memorable food crimes on request.
