Hi my name is Matthew , I’m a migrant worker from Barbados. In December 2022 I got really sick with what I thought was a cold. After two weeks of taking cold medication the symptoms got worse and one night I couldn’t breathe I was rushed to the hospital and after a chest X-ray I was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia as well as a rare form of pneumonia called pneumocystis . I was admitted to the ICU for two weeks during this time I found out that the pneumocystis had damaged my kidneys declining the function to less than 20%. My kidneys function improved drastically in a week and I was discharged from hospital. In May whilst at work I had a hard time breathing and went to the hospital and was diagnosed with renal failure as my kidney function had declined to less than 15%. I was admitted to the ICU where I underwent a series of tests to find out the cost of the kidney failure and started heamodialysis After 15 days I was discharged now I undergo dialysis 3 times a week which left me with no appetite , severe weight loss as well as weak and tired to the point where a simple task like climbing a flight of stairs is nearly. impossible at times. Since insurance considers this to be a preexisting condition they don’t cover all medical expenses which has overtime become incredibly expensive and any help you can provide, even just sharing this link would be greatly appreciated
