My name is Yvonne Freeman and I’m doing this GoFundMe for my boyfriend, Matthew Dimmitt. Matt and I have been together for almost two years. We first started dating our sophomore year of high school; we are now in our senior year.
Matt had been complaining about his leg hurting at the end of June, and it slowly got to the point where he couldn’t walk. At first, we thought it was a tendon tear from work (as the doctors told us from the Belfast ER), but months later, he got rushed to the Bangor Hospital because he thought his tendon fully tore. Unfortunately, that was not the case. They found a tumor in his leg that had been eating away his bone, which caused his femur to break. We also found out it had spread to his lungs. He then got brought to the Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston. After lots of tests and surgery, we found out he has Osteosarcoma, which is a rare bone-eating disease that attacks large bones in the body, most common in teens.
He starts chemo on Monday (for 10 weeks), then will have surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery will be followed by more chemo. Each surgery will be in Boston, and most chemo treatments will be in Bangor. If chemo and surgery do not get rid of the cancer or if the cancer were to come back, he’d only have a 30% survival rate for the next 5 years.
The money that you donate would be going straight to Matthew for him to give to his family for gas and to help me buy anything he may need in the next year or more. His 18th birthday is December 22, and he’s already had to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital. I’m hoping to make his birthday as special as I can. Anything is so, so appreciated! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
