In 2012, my life changed dramatically after a mountain bike race left me paralyzed from the chest down. Despite this, I’ve continued to pursue my passion for art, working as a graphic designer and having my cartoons published in the New Yorker and many other publications. My wife and I also grew our family through adoption, and our son is now almost nine years old. Living with a spinal cord injury comes with significant expenses, and I typically spend a lot each year on medical equipment alone.

As my son grows, I want to be more present for family adventures like road trips and camping. Unfortunately, accessibility challenges often mean I have to stay home while my wife and son travel. My dream is to build a custom wheelchair accessible van with a wet bath, kitchen, and bed, so we can travel and I can be self-sufficient wherever we go. I’ve already consulted with Sara & Alex James about building the van, and I know exactly what’s needed to make this dream a reality. This is the first leg of the fundraising. The final cost will be closer to $150-250k, depending on how much I can raise.

There are currently a few vans on the market, like the Dodge Winnebago Roam, that are close to what I want, but they aren't truly wheelchair accessible and wouldn't allow me to drive (due to a step up into the cabin) and the bathroom is not accessible from a wheelchair.
