Our younger brother Matthew has recently been diagnosed with AML Leukemia this past weekend, after just celebrating his 25th Birthday 2 weeks ago. As with anyone receiving this devastating news, it has brought our family to our knees. As AML Leukemia is more common in Adults 55+, we are all shocked to say the least given how young and healthy Matthew is.
Matthew is many things- he is a son, brother, boyfriend, uncle and a friend to so many. He is the most caring, kind, and selfless individual who has such an open and loving heart to any one he meets. Having Matthew as our little brother has been the most amazing blessing a family could ask for, how lucky are we to be and have the honour of being his siblings.
Matthew graduated from Foothills Composite Highschool in Okotoks, AB where he gained many strong friendships. He played hockey with the Okotoks Hockey Association as well as the Junior B Bison's Hockey association, where he played hard and was always there for his teammates. Matthew has recently started his own hauling business where he works diligently to achieve 100% customer satisfaction with every delivery. He has also started to build a beautiful life with his girlfriend Taylor and their fur baby Leramie (who we know is missing Matthew right now).
Matthew has always been there for his community and now, we are very graciously asking for his community to support him in his time of need.
Matthew will be facing at least 6 months of Chemotherapy, with a potential stem cell transplant at the end of treatment. He will have a long recovery period of up to 2 years before he can fully return to work.
In order for Matthew to focus 100% on his healing journey, we need to assist him and Taylor with these very unexpected expenses related to his AML diagnosis. These funds will be going to assist Matthew with expenses related to treatment and medications that may not be covered by insurance. Matthew will also continue to pay expenses related to his business, as well as day to day expenses such as bills.
Another way to show support would be to donate blood at your local Canadian Blood Services location, which will be appreciated by so many in need, as Matthew has also undergo blood transfusions.
Matthew's journey will be a long one of many steps requiring so much strength and support from everyone in his community and we thank you for being there with Matthew no matter how big or small along the way.
If you could kindly share this your community, we would truly appreciate it.
On behalf of Matthew and Taylor- from our family to yours- thank you for your support.
Melissa, Zach and the the entire Baba Family
