Help Matthew and Grandparents Through Tragedy

My name is Kerri Ryan. I am Liz's granddaughter and Matthew's cousin.

Matthew is only 15 years old. He's just started his freshman year of high school. His father, my Uncle Pat passed away in 2013, when Matthew was only 4. In the most horrific of circumstances, Matthew's mom, Amanda was placed on life support this past week. She is on multisystem organ failure and on a ventilator. Her doctor's say she will not recover.

Meaning Matthew is going to lose his only living parent in the very near future. Something my grandmother has to try and find words to explain to a child that is cognitively 10 he will never hear his mom's voice again. Never feel her hug again.

Matthew and Amanda live with my grandparents who are in their 80s. On top of this tragedy, my grandfather has been in the hospital battling pneumonia for the last 2 months. He was just moved to rehab yesterday.

These situations are a lot for anyone under normal circumstances. But add them together and it is beyond tolling.

My grandma is struggling. Mentally, physically, and financially. Now she's going to be starting the process of trying to establish guardianship and eventually will have a funeral to plan. My grandparents do not receive any assistance for Matthews needs. She needs help. I know she won't ask for it, and hell she might even get mad at me for asking for her. I don't really care. If you know my grandparents you know that they are the people that will do anything to take care of those around them.
