My name is Lorie and I am fundraising on behalf of my son Matthew. Matthew has several rare gastroenterology conditions - Gastroparesis, Short Bowel Syndrome, Ileus, and pseudo obstruction of the intestines. He has had 2 major GI surgeries, the latest being 70% removal of his large intestines. After surgery for a year he was TPN Dependent with a Broviac CVL. Due to protein issues, he had to be quickly removed from TPN support. I fought hard against several doctors who wanted him to have GI transplants. Thankfully Matthew's body was able to adjust to sustain itself on oral feeds of medical formula.

Matthew has been on medical formula since he was a baby. During this time insurance has always covered his formula. Until recently. We have been trying to get coverage and authorization again since February of this year. Our insurance company is billed roughly $3600 a month for his 60 cans of formula. As a single income family with 2 medically complex children, we simply can not afford $3600 a month for his nutrition.

Without his medical formula, he would starve to death.

We are looking to get at least a 4 month supply of his medical formula to buy us time to continue to fight insurance or get coverage through state programs. Unfortunately due to recent bills being passed, that might not happen.
