Anyone who knows Matteo Segato knows that he is a bright, caring and friendly 15 year old boy. He is an avid hockey and soccer player and loves to hang out with his friends.
On October 3rd, 2016 his parents, Karen and Maurizio were given the news of Matteo's diagnosis of Pineal brain cancer. He was rushed to B.C. Children's Hospital in Vancouver and immediately underwent brain surgery. As you can imagine, this diagnosis was devastating and has rocked this family to the core.
Matteo has recovered from his surgery and has already completed one round of chemotherapy. Several more rounds are to come and will be followed by months of radiation. The tumour has caused Matteo to lose mobility, his hearing and has limited his vision.
Karen has taken a leave from her teaching position in the Sooke School District in order to care for Matteo during this time. The family will be travelling back and forth to B.C. Children's Hospital for several months. This is where family, friends and our community can step in. Any money raised through this campaign will help pay for travel costs, accommodations (when needed), medications and treatments as Matteo fights this battle.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering helping my dear friend and her family through this most difficult of times.
