Hi everyone. This is Matt’s wife : Angela, I wanted to share some news with you all. About 5 weeks ago when Matt had his infusion Matt suffered an AE (adverse episode). The long and short of that means his brain quit speaking to his muscles… including his heart, lungs, stomach etc.. to say this was scary and set him back
is an understatement! He’s not been the same since. That is one of the reasons we’re doing this go fund me. I’m going to try to be at home with him as his part time caregiver until his recovery is moving in the right direction again. This disease has been a wicked ride, but this was nearly fatal and we are struggling to get him back to normal. Please help if you can, and we’ll hope and pray for a swift recovery! Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers & consideration!
A little bit of his story… Matt was diagnosed in 2020 with the most aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis, called Primary Progressive. This form of this disease doesn’t stop, it keeps attacking. At the beginning of 2020 he was completely normal with day-to-day activities. By the time he was able to get into the neurologist (remember this is during Covid) He was walking with a cane with multiple other ailments. He was prescribed the only drug that is approved for primary progressive, OCREVUS, which he will no longer be able to have after this episode. After many MRIs, test, and amazing specialist we have been able to get a baseline of what would be the new normal for his life. This disease attacks the brain, so we have gone through seven different specialists… Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, Neurologist, Gastroenterologist, and so on. At the beginning of being diagnosed he lost ability to write, as this is a motor skills, had trouble seeing, days of vertigo, no longer able to drive, and start needing a walker. When he started with Occupational and Physical Therapy he was using he was using the walker, couldn’t write, read for any length of time, down to not being able to color in a coloring book. Which for an artist, I’m sure, is heartbreaking. He used to have the most amazing penmanship and would write love letters to me when we first started dating. He never gave up. After many months of both PT and OT he was able to start walking with a cane, can read for short times, and now can write. With losing all of this, the one thing he has NEVER lost is ability to fight, love, and laugh. I’m truly lucky to have him, he is an inspiration to me. With this last episode, I can’t express how scary it is. I’m grateful to still have him is the most important. But this whole process we have worked so hard on is going to start over, to try to find him his new baseline.
