This GoFundMe is for my son Matt Bennett. On November 6th, he was riding his mobility scooter early in the morning, and as he was crossing in the crosswalk, a vehicle turned and hit him. My son is 32 years old and has autism spectrum disorder. He doesn't drive, and this scooter is a huge boost to his independence and gets him to and from work and the store, etc. He filed a claim and was told by the man's insurance that they will not accept the claim because the man who hit him states that he had the right of way. We are unable to get video and pictures from the traffic cameras.
It has been over two months, and he is now stuck with trying to replace his scooter as well as potentially being stuck with medical bills due to the tear in his knee ligaments and physical therapy. When he was hit, his scooter was damaged beyond repair, and he was completely knocked off onto the road. The type of scooter he needs is in the higher range because he requires higher weight capacity and other mobility requirements. He tried to do everything the right way, and it was devastating for him to hear that the insurance company wouldn't take his claim without video from the traffic cams and we are not able to get those according to the police. He knows exactly how many seconds were left on that clock. This has been hard on him, and we appreciate any support!
