Help Matthew fight his biggest battle
Matthew is a young 22 year old who has just been diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Back in April Matthew presented to his GP with strange pains down the left side of his rib cage who then sent him for a CT scan.
After receiving the scan back Matt's GP was not happy with what he could see in Matt's chest and sent a referral to a thoracic surgeon.
Matt then went on a weeks holiday in Bali with his beautiful girlfriend not thinking anything different and upon his return back to Australia he realised that the Princess Alexandra hospital wanted an immediate appointment with him to discuss their findings.
Matt travelled to Brisbane with his mum and girlfriend by his side to be told they have found any alarming mass behind his breast bone and they would like permission to take a biopsy the following week.
Matt then had the biopsy the following week and a week after that the whole family travelled back to Brisbane again to hear the dreaded news they never expected to hear that the biopsy shows cancerous cells.
Matt was then referred back to the toowoomba haemotology unit the very next day to discuss the extent of it. It was then they discovered it was Hodgkin Lymphoma and the mass is quite large 8 x 6 x 19cm in total.
After a PET scan and a whole heap of other tests there was a small mass also found in his left Lymph node and a bit of fluid around his heart and it would be best they treat this immediately.
Matt undertook his first bout of chemotherapy on Friday 19th July and has been told this will proceed for the next 4-6 months.
Due to Matt's profession as a gardener he will be unable to work during the process as the risk of infection is way too high.
Matt was due to go on a holiday with his girlfriend and his closest friends at the end of August and now cannot go again due to the risk of infection and possibly will not get any money back from the travel agent.
6 months is a long time to go without an income so if you can bear this in mind and offer a small donation to help Matt and his girlfriend stay on top of their daily expenses.
Matt is determined to win this fight and not having to stress over financial worries would help lead to a full recovery.
